Our Story
A Rich Heritage
The local community has been served by the Methodist Church since 1890 when a small congregation began in Levin. The Presbyterian Church arrived early in the new century and have been worshipping on our present site since 1902. In 2010, following many years of conversations and shared services, the congregations of St John’s Methodist and St Andrew’s Presbyterian came together under the name Levin Uniting Parish. Soon after, the St John’s Methodist Church on the corner of Kent and Cambridge Streets was sold and the former St Andrew’s complex became our home. We continue today as a faith community under the umbrella of both the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand and the Methodist Church of New Zealand: Te Hāhi Weteriana o Aotearoa yet open to all people whatever their faith background.
Looking to the Future
In 2024 we changed our name to Levin Uniting Church and Community Centre as we opened ourselves intentionally as a place for community and the organisations that serve it to come together. We see ourselves, not as a museum of saints, but a field hospital of grace, where the wounded, the hurt and the lonely are welcome. We strive to be a place where everyone thrives.
